Cory Teunissen Claims Victory at the Nautique Pro Am

Cory Teunissen Claims Victory at the Nautique Pro Am Presented by Rockstar Energy

Lake Alfred, Fla. (June 13, 2015) – The fourth round of the Wakeboard World Series finished on Saturday with the Nautique Pro Am presented by Rockstar Energy at Mossdale Quarry Lakes in Lathrop, California. Following two days of amateur divisions and pro qualifying at the third stop of the Nautique Wake Series, Cory Teunissen dethroned three-time winner in 2015, Harley Clifford in Pro Men to earn his first career WBWS win behind the award winning G23.

Local riders also stepped it up for the final rounds with six amateur division champions taking home titles including Nic Rapa winning the Jr. Pro Men’s division. In the Pro divisions Brian Grubb won the Pro Wakeskate final and Nautique team rider Meagan Ethell won again in the WWA Wakeboard World Series Pro Women’s division. The Wake Open wrapped up with the Rockstar Energy Big Air Kicker final with Dean Smith leading an all Rockstar sponsored podium that included Chad Sharpe and Rusty Malinoski.

The Pro Men final round format gives each rider two runs, in which their best run counts, so following the first time through the order, every rider had a shot at the Pro Am title. The final was a battle with the riders putting together double flips, 900 variations and mobe 540s with Australian rider Teunissen scoring a 95.00 to take the win over the Canadian Molinoski.

“I am super stoked to come away with the win out here in Cali,” said Teunissen. “Starting in the semi finals I was in a stacked heat, but I was able to get through to the finals. I feel like the level of riding just keeps improving at each stop. I'm really honored to take a win in my rookie year so, overall just super stoked all around!

Team Nautique’s Ethell won her semifinal heat on Friday and carried that momentum into Saturday’s final round where she combined a slew of technical tricks to take home the top prize.

Before the pros took to the water behind Super Air Nautique G23, the amateur finals wrapped up behind both the award-winning Super Air Nautique G21 and G23. Hollie Waldrop continued her winning ways, dominatingthe Girls 13 and under division, Kevin Duffy won the Boys (10-13), Francisco Cabezas took the Masters (30-39) title, Robert Pabon won the Men’s 1 final, and Mexico’s Darin Delgado won Junior Men (14-18).

“Nautique Boats’ core is the family that rides,” said Nautique President Greg Meloon. “And the Nautique Wake Series with events like the Pro Am gives riders of all ages and skill levels a chance to compete and enjoy time together. The Super Air Nautique G-Series has proven to be the best wake for riders of all levels providing them a platform to deliver their best performance.”

The Rockstar Energy Big Air Kicker Final was another highlight of the last day of competition with Smith launching a massive wrapped mute 360 to take the win. The Rockstar Unit Parktech kicker helped the riders put on a great show as Sharpe showed off a big and stylish Indy Glide to finish runner-up.
