Dylan Kwasniewski No. 31 NNS Post-Race Report: Brist... / Mar.17.2014
Kwasniewski Fights, Brings Home Top-15 Finish at Bristol
Bristol, Tenn. (March 16, 2014) - The NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) made its first stop of the 2014 season this weekend at the famed 0.533-mile Bristol Motor Speedway (BMS) for the Drive To Stop Diabetes 300. Dylan Kwasniewski and his Rockstar Energy team looked to familiarize themselves with the "World's Fastest Half Mile" and continue to gain experience with one another.Kwasniewski and his Turner Scott Motorsports (TSM) team started the weekend by qualifying 11th, but had to drop to the back of the field at the start of the race due to damage suffered during the "knock out" qualifying session. After fighting his way through traffic and running top-10 lap times during the middle portion of the race, Kwasniewski crossed the finish line in 15th position.
Once the green flag dropped, Kwasniewski and the rest of the field quickly jockeyed for position going into the tight Turn 1 at BMS. Kwasniewski picked up six spots by the second lap and was scored in the 33rd position when the first caution of the day came out on lap five. After the restart on lap nine, Kwasniewski and the rest of the field settled into a long green-flag run. The Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender found himself in the 25th position and two laps down when the second caution of the day came out on lap 96 for debris. During the caution, Tryson called Kwasniewski down pit road to change four tires, add fuel and make a track-bar adjustment to help loosen up the No. 31 Rockstar Energy Camaro. After a quick pit stop by his TSM team, Kwasniewski maintained his position and restarted the race from the 25th spot, still two laps down.
The Las Vegas, Nevada native quickly radioed to his crew that the latest set of changes helped tremendously and that his car felt much better. Kwasniewski worked his way through traffic and found himself in the 20th position, three laps down, when the third caution of the day came out on lap 136. During the caution, Tryson decided to stay out, take the wave around and gain a lap back. With teams on different pit strategies, Kwasniewski restarted in the 19th position, two laps down. Battling four other cars on his lap and running top-10 lap times for the remaining portion of the race, Kwasniewski was able to bring the Rockstar Energy Chevy home with a solid top-15 finish.
"My Turner Scott Motorsports prepared me with another great Rockstar Energy Chevy this weekend," Kwasniewski said. "It's a shame that these guys have had to work so hard these past few weekend's to get our car back in race condition, but they rallied back and gave me a great car. I'm glad we were able to come home with a top-15 finish." .
The NNS next heads to Auto Club Speedway for the California 300 on Saturday, March 22 at 2:00 p.m. EDT on ESPN.
