Mid-Race Accident Relegates Kwasniewski to 31st-Place Finish
BROOKLYN, Mich. (June 15, 2014) - Dylan Kwasniewski made his first-career NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) start at Michigan International Speedway during Saturday afternoon's Ollie's Bargain Outlet 250. Kwasniewski was on his way to a solid finish until suffering a mid-race accident, which relegated the 19-year-old rookie and his Rockstar Energy Drink team to a 31st-place finish. During the weekend's two NNS practices, Kwasniewski and his Turner Scott Motorsports team had speed, laying down the 13th- and 7th-fastest times, respectively. Kwasniewski then went out Saturday morning and laid down a time of 37.528 seconds, which was good enough for a top-10 starting position for Saturday afternoon's 125-lap shootout. As soon as the green flag waved, Kwasniewski got loose going into Turn 3 and found himself in the 24th position when the first caution of the day waved on lap 3. After the restart, Kwasniewski settled in and started picking off competitors one by one and was scored in the 10th position when green-flag pit stops took place on Lap 41. After receiving four tires, fuel and adjustments during the stop, Kwasniewski cycled back around in the 18th position. The Sunoco Rookie of The Year contender worked his way up to the 16th position before the second caution of the day came out on lap 51. During the stop, Kwasniewski came down pit road for fuel only, and with his competitors on varying strategies, Kwasniewski restarted in the 13th position. The Las Vegas native held onto to his position until lap 80 when he got loose going into Turn 1 and hit the wall. Kwasniewski and the No.31 Rockstar Energy Drink team suffered irreparable damage, ultimately coming home in the 31st position.
Dylan Kwasniewski on Racing at Michigan International Speedway:
"Today wasn't the finish that we had hoped for going into the race. I got loose going into Turn 1 and ultimately hit the wall, ending our day. Pat and the guys had our Rockstar Energy Drink Chevy really dialed in this weekend, and we had a lot of speed. Our day is coming; we just need to have some luck and put a complete race together, and we will be just fine."
