Matt Ladley & Kyle Mack Step Up at Mammoth Grand Pri... / Jan.20.2014
Friday’s Halfpipe Qualifier #3 at the Mammoth Grand Prix produced stiff competition with seven scores above 90 points. Matt Ladley, who had stomped a frontside 180 heading switch into a huge cab 7, followed by a front 12, backside 9, front 9, back 5, and then front double 10, placed 3rd with a score of 93.
Saturday’s Slopestyle Qualifier #5 marked the end of qualifying for the U.S. Snowboard Slopestyle team, and was by far one of the toughest competitions of the year. Kyle Mack took his second podium of the series, putting down a solid 92.4 on his first run. Unfortunately, Mack’s two podium finishes this weekend left him just outside the three Olympic qualifying spots. Chas Guldemond, on the other hand, who had an unusually difficult time making clean runs during this final qualifier, had already accumulated enough points to make the U.S. Olympic team and will compete in the inaugural Olympic slopestyle snowboard event in Sochi.
