Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Finland Enduro GP Race Report

PODIUM RESULTS FOR ROCKSTAR ENERGY HUSQVARNA AT GP OF FINLAND

Challenging Finnish race marks mid-way point of Enduro World Championship series

With top three results for riders in all classes the GP of Finland marked a positive end to the first half of the 2016 Enduro World Championship for Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing.

For Husqvarna’s Enduro 2 class rider Mathias Bellino the GP of Finland ended with two strong runner-up results. Pushing hard throughout the event the Frenchman was unable to challenge for the class win on either day but came away from the series’ fourth round with a strong haul of championship points. Putting his disappointing GP of Greece performance well and truly behind him, Bellino will now lead the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing team into the second half of the Enduro World Championship series.

Enduro 1 class rider Pascal Rauchenecker had much to be pleased about at the end of the Finnish GP. Securing a career first EWC podium result on day one with third, the Austrian backed it up with a strong fourth place result on day two. Throughout the weekend Pascal battled with teammate Danny McCanney, getting the better of the Manxman by just under six seconds on day one.

It was also a positive weekend for Danny McCanney, who like Rauchenecker secured a podium result in Enduro 1. Denied a spot on the podium by his teammate on day one, on day two McCanney upped his pace to claim third. With it he improved to third in the Enduro 1 championship standings.

Josep Garcia’s time in Finland ended with the young Spaniard failing to finish the second day after injuring his knee. Showing impressive speed in the Enduro Junior class on day one, Josep placed as runner-up to championship leader Giacomo Redondi. Josep currently holds third in the Enduro Junior series standings.

Husqvarna supported rider Jane Daniels enjoyed a hugely successful GP of Finland, topping the Women’s class on both days. With the first of four rounds of the Women’s championship completed, Jane holds an eight-point advantage.

The Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing team will next head to Sweden for round five of the 2016 Enduro World Championship on June 18-19.

Mathias Bellino: “It’s been a good but difficult weekend. I’m certainly not at my best in these conditions but I did my best. Both days were pretty good for me. I could see that fighting for the win was going to be hard, but to finish as runner-up on both days is good. Also, it was important not to pick up any injuries and that was very easy to do here. No, I’m happy. I gave all I had this weekend and I’m pleased with my results.”

Pascal Rauchenecker: “It’s been a difficult but rewarding GP for me. I’ve tried to improve at each race but this GP I really felt that I rode better. I made a pretty good start on day one, a good first lap. The second lap was ok and then I had a pretty big crash on the final enduro test. Finally I was able to finish ahead of McCanney, which was great. Day two was generally good. I didn't have any really good tests but also no really bad tests. It was a really hard day but I’m pleased to finish fourth. The enduro test was horrible, but it was really important not to make mistakes there. I wasn’t expecting to finish on the podium in conditions like this, but I’m really pleased about it.”

Danny McCanney: “I’m over the moon to get back on the podium. The event’s been a tough one for everyone but I made a few too many mistakes during the first day, and was too cautious on the final enduro test. It was such a fine line between not pushing enough and pushing too much. I had a few small bike issues early on day two so it was hard getting up to speed during the first lap. But things improved and I picked up more speed and consistency in the enduro test compared to day one. I just kept pushing as hard as I could all day. I knew I wasn’t going to be able to catch the first two riders but my focus was to finish third. It feels like a win to be back on the podium again. I know I’ve not ridden like I can during the last GPs so I really wanted to get back on the podium. It’s great that I was able to do that here in Finland.”
